This gallery is a prominent modern art gallery in the entire south Indian region housing various forms of artistic expression from several Indian and international artists, envisioned by Mrs. Nirmala Birla, who has taken a lifetime of effort in collecting these paintings and artifacts over several years.
Salient features of the gallery include paintings by Jamini Roy, Amitabh Banerjee, Paritosh Sen, Akbar Padamsee, Samir Aich, Tayyub Mehtab, Krishan Khanna, Amitava Dhar, Laxma Goud, Surya Prakash, Sudhir Patwardhan and several other prominent painters. Among the modern sculptures, a huge bronze figure by the famous sculptor Meera Mukherjee is of outstanding importance. Among the other noted sculptors of the country such as Chintamani Kar, Bimal Kundu, Manik Talukdar, Somnath Hoare and Niranjan Pridhan of great artistic value hold a permanent exhibition space. The Thomas Daniell prints add up to another interesting highlight of the gallery. Daniell and his nephew, William who accompanied him when they arrived in Calcutta in 1786, were British landscape painters. They traveled around India making sketches and paintings of the scenery, and these were later turned into engravings for sale to the public. A wall illuminating seventy four of these prints depicting various parts of India they traveled through, is of paramount historical importance.

Another interesting aspect of the gallery is its collection of Thomas Daniell prints. The English landscape painter arrived in Calcutta in 1786 with his nephew, William, who was also a landscape artist. The duo travelled around the country making sketches and paintings of the sceneries. These were later turned into engravings for sale to the public. A wall illuminating 74 of these prints depicting the various places they travelled to is of particular historical importance.
