Dr. Kamalakar Gundepudi, PhD, FRAS Director, Birla
Archeological and Cultural Research Institute
Dr. Kamalakar obtained his Master’s degree in 1975 from Andhra University and PhD in 1985
from Nagarjuna University. He is with Birla Archeological and Cultural Research Institute
(BACRI) since 1978. He did his P.G. Diploma in Museology from Osmania University in 1995 and
is the recipient of Salar Jung Gold Medal for that year. From the same university he
obtained his P.G. Diploma in Archival Science & Manuscriptology in the year 1999. He is a
recognized supervisor for guiding PhD students in the field of archeology and allied
subjects and examiner for Postgraduate and Doctoral examinations for several universities.
To his credit he has several national and international seminars as Director of BACRI on
different topics. He has edited and published many publications apart from several research
articles on archeology and conservation. He had participated and directed several
excavations since 1978 which include Veerapuram, Vaddamanu, Garapadu, Pudur etc. He has also
participated in underwater explorations of Arabian Sea at Dwarka and Betdwaraka undertaken
by National Institute of Oceanography (Goa) in collaboration with BACRI. Apart from from his
Hyderabad engagements he also directs the archeological museum at Birla Museum, Bhopal.
